The death toll from the night attack on the Ukrainian capital has risen to 24, including three children. Rescuers continue to dig through the rubble of a block of flats in the Darnytskyi district, which collapsed after Russian strikes on the night of May 13-14, 2026.
Ukrainian authorities said that the interventions continue with fire units, search and rescue teams and medical personnel mobilized on the scene. The damaged areas are isolated, and the operations are being carried out in parallel with the structural assessment of surrounding buildings to prevent further accidents.
Night attack and rescue operations
According to official information released after midnight, the strikes targeted several points in Kiev, but the worst damage was recorded in Darnytskyi, where a residential building was destroyed . Initially, the death toll announced by the intervention teams indicated 21 deaths; as the rubble was removed, the number of victims rose to 24 , including three children .

The above message, sent by the State Emergency Service of Ukraine, was later updated with the discovery of other victims under the rubble. In parallel, local authorities asked residents of the affected areas to follow the instructions of rescuers and avoid the intervention perimeters so as not to hinder the work of the teams.
Ambulances and police crews remain deployed around the collapsed building. Pyrotechnics specialists are also examining projectile fragments to document the type of ammunition used and possible trajectories, elements necessary for both domestic investigations and international documentation of the incident.
Day of mourning and echoes in the region
Kiev declared a day of mourning on May 15, 2026 , in memory of the victims. Flags were flown at half-mast, and festive public events were canceled. Hospitals in the city activated emergency plans to simultaneously manage critical cases and those requiring medium-term care, including psychological support for the affected families.
