A BIKER CAME TO MY WIFE’S GRAVE EVERY SINGLE WEEK, AND FOR MONTHS, I HAD NO IDEA WHO HE WAS…

He contacted departments.

He asked anyone who might have known something.

But every answer led back to the same conclusion.

The donor wanted to remain anonymous.

“So eventually,” Mike told me, “I stopped looking.”

He paused.

“But I never stopped wondering.”

I sat silently beside him.

Then something occurred to me.

Something I had never considered.

“Mike…”

He looked at me.

“Who do you think the donor was?”

He didn’t answer immediately.

Instead, he reached into the pocket of his leather jacket.

And what he pulled out made my entire body go cold.

It was a small folded piece of paper.

He handed it to me.

“I found this years later.”

I unfolded it slowly.

And the moment I saw the handwriting, I recognized it.

It was Emily’s.

My wife’s handwriting.

The handwriting I had seen on grocery lists.

Birthday cards.

Notes left on the refrigerator.

School forms.

Little reminders around our house.

My hands began to shake.

Mike watched me.

“I eventually discovered the donor,” he said quietly.

“It was your wife.”

I stared at him.

Emily had never told me.

Not once.

She had never mentioned Mike.

She had never told me about Kylie.

She had never told me that she had given away $40,000.

She had simply done it.

And then she had gone home and continued living her ordinary life.

The woman who packed snacks for school events.

The woman who volunteered at church.

The woman who worried about whether the kids had finished their homework.

The woman I thought I knew completely.

She had quietly saved a child’s life.

And she had never asked anyone to know.

Mike looked at Emily’s grave.

“That’s why I come here every Saturday.”

I couldn’t speak.

He continued.

“I don’t come because I think she was mine.”

He shook his head.

“She was yours.”

“She was the love of your life.”

“I come because every week, I want to remind myself that somewhere in this world, there is a woman who made the most important difference in my daughter’s life—and she never asked for anything in return.”

Then he stood.
