Older Photographs Tell a Different Story, Expert Says
That confident appearance was very different from the body language visible in some photographs taken when Barron was younger.
Body language expert and psychologist Bruce Durham examined older images of Barron appearing alongside his parents and focused on one recurring detail.
In the photographs, Barron appeared to be looking downward.
Durham interpreted that behavior as potentially reflecting discomfort or uncertainty while being photographed in such a highly public environment.
Of photos, when Barron was a bit younger, he said, “I think it is quite sad and sweet that Barron is looking at the floor in both photos.”
The observation does not establish exactly what Barron was thinking or feeling during those moments, but Durham viewed the downward gaze as emotionally significant.
Expert Discusses the Pressure of Growing Up in Front of Cameras
Being photographed is a routine part of life for presidents, first ladies and other major public figures.
For a child or teenager, however, appearing in front of cameras can represent a very different experience.
Durham suggested that the pressure surrounding Barron’s public appearances may have been particularly difficult because of his young age.
He also offered criticism of Donald Trump’s behavior while interpreting the family photographs.
“It must be hard for any young adult to be in that position – but again, with Donald being so focused on ‘himself’ maybe he hasn’t got time for ‘others’ – including helping his son with his confidence levels in front of the cameras,” Durham continued. “It’s a bit like this with his powerhand over Melania, directing her to go where he demands, almost like pulling a helpless puppy along on a lead.”
The comments represent Durham’s interpretation of body language visible in photographs rather than a confirmed description of Barron’s emotional state.
Barron’s Life Has Changed Considerably Since Those Images
The photographs analyzed by Durham captured Barron during an earlier stage of his life.
He is now 20 years old and attending college, with his circumstances considerably different from those of the child who appeared beside his parents during Donald Trump’s first presidency.
His more confident appearance during his father’s second election victory suggested that he may have become increasingly comfortable handling public attention.
At the same time, he continues to maintain considerable privacy.
His extended absence from public appearances indicates that becoming more comfortable during major family events has not translated into regularly seeking the spotlight.
Barron has instead continued focusing on his education while remaining largely outside the daily public activities associated with his parents.
He Has Rejoined His Parents in Washington
Barron has now reunited with Donald and Melania in Washington as he continues his studies through NYU’s D.C. campus.
The arrangement means he can remain close to his family while pursuing his university education.
It also continues a pattern established during his freshman year, when Melania chose an alternative to traditional dormitory life for her son.
Rather than living in student housing, Barron stayed at Trump Tower while attending college.
That decision reflected the unusually complicated security and privacy considerations surrounding someone in his position.
His university years have therefore looked considerably different from the typical experience of students living independently in campus dormitories.
Melania Continues to Take a Protective Approach
Melania Trump’s protective attitude toward Barron has remained consistent as he has moved into adulthood.
Earlier this fall, a political source claimed that the First Lady continues dedicating a considerable amount of attention to her son and his well-being.
The source described Melania as particularly concerned about the possibility that Barron could be mistreated because of his family identity.
That concern reportedly means she remains closely informed about his movements and activities.
“Melania watches Barron constantly in an effort to be sure nobody messes with him or bullies him, as this is a constant worry with her,” the source told People. “She always knows where he is and what he’s doing.”
The comments present a picture of a mother who continues monitoring her son closely even as he reaches adulthood and progresses through university.
