In 1976, full of hope but with a light wallet, he left Philadelphia to conquer New York. His first months were spent on his sister’s couch, until he found, through an ad in the Village Voice, an unusual place to live: an artist’s flatshare for $150 a month, shared with a classical pianist.
The apprenticeship years
This austere period, however, had its charm. Kevin still remembers the nocturnal melodies of his pianist roommate, which serenaded his New York nights. It was in this unique atmosphere that he honed his dramatic skills at the renowned Circle in the Square Theater School . His motto at the time? “I was searching for authenticity, for life in its truest form.”
Despite limited resources, he considered artistic expression vital. A conviction inherited from a family upbringing where creativity and integrity went hand in hand.
From cinematic glory to rural tranquility
Success came with Footloose, followed by many other landmark films. Yet, this fame has never erased his humble roots . Today, his daily life contrasts sharply with his urban beginnings.
