—Mrs. Marta Salcedo?
-Yeah.
—Your husband has suffered a medical emergency.
I felt my legs stop responding.
Alberto had collapsed during the meeting.
An ambulance took him to the hospital.
When I arrived he was conscious, but the doctors suspected a heart problem and were running tests.
I sat down outside the emergency room.
Two hours later, a doctor came out and explained that, fortunately, he did not appear to have suffered a serious heart attack. He had experienced an arrhythmia associated with other factors and would remain hospitalized for observation.
I breathed for the first time in hours.
Then I heard a baby crying .
I didn’t pay attention to it.
Until someone said:
—Mrs. Marta.
I turned around.
It was her.
Lucia.
For a moment I didn’t recognize her.
He wasn’t wearing sportswear .
She was wearing dark pants, a white blouse, and an ID card hanging around her neck.
Her baby was in the arms of an older woman.
Lucia smiled.
—I was looking for her.
I looked at his accreditation.
Under his name it said:
Lucía Ferrer — Health social worker.
I remained motionless.
—Do you work here?
