Lindsey Graham was born on July 9, 1955, in Central, South Carolina. He graduated from the University of South Carolina School of Law and worked as a lawyer and officer in the United States Air Force before entering politics.
In Congress, he built a reputation as a politician concerned with national security and defense issues. He served on the Senate Judiciary Committee and the Senate Armed Services Committee, and was involved in numerous debates on United States foreign policy.
Over the past two decades, Lindsey Graham has played a prominent role in negotiations over the defense budget, international relations, and support for United States allies.
Although he was appreciated by the conservative electorate, the senator sometimes held positions independent of the official party line, which earned him both criticism and respect from his political opponents.
