Honoring His Life

The most meaningful memorial is often found in the lives a person touched.

If the pastor encouraged someone to return to church, that encouragement remains.

If he helped a family through a difficult period, that kindness remains part of their story.

If he inspired someone through a sermon, those words may continue to influence them.

If he helped someone find hope during a dark period, that impact does not disappear with his passing.

A life can continue to speak through the people it changed.

That is why remembering the good that someone contributed can be so important during grief.

The circumstances of death may be the reason people first hear the news, but they should not be the only thing remembered.

A Message to Those Who Are Mourning

To the pastor’s family and everyone grieving his death: you do not have to have all the answers today.

You do not have to explain everything.

You do not have to be strong every minute.

Give yourselves permission to mourn.

Remember the good moments.

Lean on people you trust.

Accept help when it is offered.

And protect your peace from unnecessary speculation.

The days ahead may be difficult, but you do not have to walk through them alone.

Friends, relatives, church members, and neighbors can provide practical and emotional support.

Sometimes support means talking.

Sometimes it means preparing food.

Sometimes it means sitting quietly beside someone.

Sometimes it means making a phone call weeks after the funeral, when much of the public attention has faded but the grief remains.
