It means readers should separate what is known from what is being claimed.
The Difference Between Accountability and Revenge
Cases involving the death of a young person can produce powerful emotions.
Anger is understandable.
Grief is understandable.
People may understandably want the harshest possible punishment.
But a justice system cannot operate solely on emotion.
Punishment is supposed to serve broader purposes, including accountability, deterrence, public safety, and, where possible, rehabilitation.
Revenge and justice are not necessarily the same thing.
