These little-known mistake and blooper in Gilligan’s Island will make you laugh out loud

Alan Hale Jr.’s path to becoming the Skipper was almost an adventure itself. Hale was reportedly working on the Western Bullet for a Bad Man in Utah when he heard about the Gilligan’s Island audition. Determined to pursue the role, he managed to leave the production, travel to Las Vegas, and fly to Los Angeles. His effort paid off, and his performance became so closely associated with the Skipper that imagining another actor calling Gilligan “little buddy” is difficult.

In one story involving fermented berry juice, the Professor joins the others in drinking even though he had previously said he was allergic to alcohol. Natalie Schafer, who played Mrs. Howell, can also briefly be seen opening her eyes during a moment when her character is supposed to be unconscious.

The ocean scenes were not always filmed in the open sea. Some sequences featuring Gilligan and the Skipper were created in a large studio tank. During an early shark scene, parts of that tank reportedly become visible. Careful viewers can also spot the shadow of a boom microphone on the raft, another reminder of the practical production methods used during the era.

One memorable comedy scene shows a woodpecker bothering Gilligan while he hides inside a tree trunk. The gag works perfectly for the episode, even if that bird is not necessarily an obvious match for the remote island setting the series asks viewers to imagine.
