A two-year-old child was found drowned in a private swimming pool in Vaucluse.

On Friday, August 23, 2025, a two-and-a-half-year-old child was found drowned by his parents in the private swimming pool of their holiday rental in Méthamis, in the Vaucluse.

A tragic drowning has occurred in Méthamis, Vaucluse. On Friday, August 22, 2025, around 6:00 p.m., two parents found their child unresponsive in the private swimming pool at their vacation rental, reports La Provence . Despite first aid administered by relatives and then by the firefighters who were called, the two-and-a-half-year-old child died at the scene. Police also went to the site of the tragedy, and a judicial inquiry has been opened to determine the exact circumstances of this tragedy .

Since the beginning of summer 2025, the number of drownings has been steadily increasing in France, particularly among young people. “Between June 1st and August 13th, 2025, 1,013 drownings occurred in France, 268 of which resulted in death (representing a 26% proportion of drownings resulting in death). In 2025, the total number of drownings is higher than in 2024 for the same period: 1,013 versus 886, representing a 14% increase,” states Public Health France in its latest report published on August 22nd. The Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur (PACA) region recorded the highest number of drownings: 174, including 18 fatalities.
