The viral report was largely accurate when first published, but it is now outdated. The aircraft is no longer simply “missing”: debris has been recovered from the Arabian Sea off Pakistan. The main fuselage, flight recorders and all five crew members remained unaccounted for in the latest confirmed public reports.
KARACHI, Pakistan — Search teams have recovered additional debris from a K2 Airways Boeing 737-400 cargo aircraft that disappeared while flying from Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates to Karachi, Pakistan, but the five people on board remain missing.

The aircraft, operating as K2 Airways Flight KTA1732, lost radio and radar contact on the evening of July 7, 2026, after its crew reported a problem with the navigation system. Initial reports described the freighter as missing over the Indian Ocean. More precisely, the aircraft disappeared over the Arabian Sea, southwest of Karachi. The Arabian Sea forms part of the wider Indian Ocean, so the original wording was geographically broad rather than entirely incorrect.
Debris identified as belonging to the aircraft was found approximately 53 nautical miles, or 98 kilometres, south of the Pakistani port of Ormara following a search lasting about 12 hours. Pakistan’s navy and Maritime Security Agency continued deploying ships and aircraft as they searched for the crew, the main section of the aircraft and its flight recorders.
The most recent confirmed reports said more wreckage had been recovered, but the main fuselage and all five crew members were still missing. Difficult weather, rough seas and deep water have complicated the operation.
The aircraft’s final minutes
According to the Pakistan Airports Authority, the crew reported a navigation-system problem at approximately 9:18 p.m. Pakistan Standard Time while the aircraft was flying toward Karachi.
Air traffic controllers attempted to guide the pilots. Around three minutes later, radar indicated that the aircraft was rapidly descending, and both radio and radar contact were lost. It was then about 155 nautical miles—approximately 287 kilometres—west of Karachi.
Public flight-tracking data showed a highly unusual sequence during the aircraft’s final minutes. The Boeing initially lost approximately 5,000 feet in less than a minute, then climbed roughly 6,000 feet in about 30 seconds before beginning a much steeper descent from an altitude of 36,550 feet.
The last transmitted tracking point placed the aircraft at around 1,100 feet above sea level and indicated a vertical descent rate of approximately 22,400 feet per minute. That figure represents an extremely abnormal rate of descent.
The viral statement that the aircraft fell “approximately 35,000 feet in less than two minutes” is therefore a reasonable summary of the final tracking sequence. However, it should not be treated as a definitive reconstruction of the accident.
Commercial flight-tracking services receive data transmitted by aircraft and collected through ground and satellite receivers. Such data can reveal a broad flight path and unusual altitude changes, but investigators must examine the original aircraft systems, air traffic control recordings and flight recorders before determining exactly what happened.
Aviation safety experts cautioned that the tracking data were dramatic but insufficient to identify the cause. One possibility raised by an expert was that the aircraft may have entered a stall during its final descent, but this remains only a preliminary interpretation rather than an official finding.
Five people were aboard
K2 Airways said the aircraft carried two pilots, two engineers and one support employee.
The airline identified them as:
- Captain Muhammad Rizwan Idris
- First Officer Faisal Jatoi
- Flight Engineer Muhammad Hamid
- Flight Engineer Muhammad Arif Siddiqui
- Aircraft loader Muhammad Taufiq Khan
Pakistani authorities had not officially declared their status in the latest reliable updates, although Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed sympathy and condolences to their families while ordering the mobilization of available search resources.
Family members have continued waiting for news while naval and civilian teams search the accident area. K2 Airways said it was cooperating with Pakistan’s aviation authorities and continued to hope for the safety of its employees.
Debris recovered near Ormara
The first identifiable wreckage was found south of Ormara, a coastal town in Pakistan’s Balochistan province. Images released by the Pakistan Navy showed personnel examining and moving pieces of the aircraft aboard a naval ship.
The debris confirmed that the aircraft had crashed into the sea, changing the nature of the incident from a search for a missing aircraft to a complex operation to locate the crew and the main wreckage.
