Russia has attacked Kiev for the third time in the last week.
The first major attack in Kiev took place on July 30, when one person was killed and five others were injured. The second attack, carried out on August 1, with ballistic missiles, killed nine people and injured more than 30, including four teenagers, damaging 13 apartment buildings, four private houses, administrative and commercial buildings, a film studio and a store, as well as dozens of vehicles.
The toll from the third Russian attack on Kiev on the night of August 4-5 is devastating. Ukrainian authorities have reported at least 15 deaths and 51 injuries so far.
It was a night of fire for Ukraine. Russia launched four Zirkon/Oniks anti-ship missiles, 24 Iskander-M/KN-23 ballistic missiles, and 115 Shahed attack drones on Kiev and the surrounding region, destroying several residential buildings, setting warehouses and industrial facilities on fire in the capital and the Kiev region. The attack began shortly after midnight and lasted for more than an hour.
Ukraine’s air defenses managed to shoot down or neutralize only 98 of the launched drones, while no missiles were intercepted.
Missiles and drones hit several districts of Kiev, including Holosiivskyi, Obolonskyi, Desneanskyi and Sviatoshinskyi. The military said the heaviest hits, causing the most material damage, were in the city of Brovary and several towns in the Kiev region. There, the State Emergency Service said extensive fires had broken out at logistics centers, warehouses, production facilities and other civilian targets, including logistics hubs in the Bucha district and an industrial enterprise in the village of Kalinivka.
